Mountain View High School wrestling significantly out performed itself this year. Setting program records, program firsts and other season highlights. Many of these accomplishments were, in part, possible thanks to an incredible senior group. With 20 of 60 wrestlers, 7 of 14 starters, 12 of 21 state qualifiers and 4 of 5 state finalists being seniors.

On December 11th the Bruins set the pace for the year with their first win at home. A 39-31 victory over Riverton.
The next day, MV beat Payson High for the first time in over 20 years.
Late December, Mountain View also had incredible performances at the Reno Tournament of Champions and the Beehive 25. At the certified All-American Reno TOC MV finished second of all Utah teams present (behind Layton) and top 15 overall. A few weeks later, the Bruins placed third at the Beehive 25, an invitation only tournament, with 8 individual placers.
Early January MV exceeded expectations with its first ever program win over Juab High School. The final score of 49-28, gave Mountain View the incredible 21 point win over the 8 time state champions. Juab went on to win their 9th consecutive team title at 3A state to close their season. Joe Blackwell and Chris Torres pulled off incredible upset pins to stretch Mountain View’s lead.

6 days later, three MV wrestlers were given the opportunity to wrestle in the coveted Ross Brunson All-Stars, where 2 of the 3 won. Glade Harman won in overtime and Landon Shumway put on a dominating show, winning 12-0. A few weeks after losing to Fremont’s Ridge Lindley at the Ross Brunson All-Stars, McGee defeated Lindley 11-1 in a college rules match at the Atlas All-Star Showdown.

Later that month the Bruins set another program first. The team finished top ten at the brutal Rockwell Rumble for the first time in program history. Finishing 9th out of 64 teams and a total of 5 place winners. The following weekend they went 6-0 at the Bruin Duals tournament.

Isaac McGee, 2nd place

Landon Shumway, 5th place

Brigham Cookson, 7th place

Jonathan Herring, 5th place

Glade Harman, 4th place
Nearing the end of the season, the Bruins cruised to a 4A Divisional B team title, winning by over 100 points. Finishing with 394.5 team points, 103 ahead of second place Payson High School. Mountain View had 6 finalists, including 5 champions. Giving a total of 21 state qualifiers, another team record set this year.

Mountain View High School wrestling finished top 3 at state for the first time in 24 years. Behind powerhouse Uintah and MV’s newest rival school Timpanogos. Both Timpanogos and Uintah had some of their best seasons ever. Mountain View had one state champ and six other individual placers.
